The Shafter Chamber of Commerce Cinco de Mayo Committee invites the community to come out and enjoy our Cinco de Mayo festivities, this Saturday April 30th. This year the Cinco de Mayo Committee is proud to have Manuel Garcia as our Grand Marshal. The day will begin with a colorful and entertaining downtown parade. Some of the line-up for the parade, just to mention a few, will include dancing horses, antique cars, and trucks. Also, the beautiful feathered dancers from the group “Brinco del Chinelo,” from Morales Mexico, will perform during the parade and at Mannel Park. The Bakersfield Young Marines will march. Their program focuses on leadership, values, teamwork, and community service. Of course, we will have our wonderful school and student entries. Los Vaqueros of Kern County, a local bike club, and our famous Minter Field Air Museum are just a few more joining in the parade.
After the parade, the program continues at Mannel Park. Opening the celebration at the park will be the Mariachi Group, “Oro y Plata” performing beautiful music. Eighteen food booths will be available for you to try, as well as keeping your sweet tooth happy. Included are an additional 20 plus booths with interesting and unique hand-made items, toys, information, and various apparel booths. The Shafter Women’s Club will have a special raffle booth to raise funds for scholarships. Entertainment will be provided throughout the day. Professional Ballet Folklorico dance group, the Moonlighters Band are in the line-up, as well as local performers.
Thank you to our volunteers and the city of Shafter. A special thanks to our Sponsors for making this event possible. Sponsor donations help the Shafter Cinco de Mayo Committee, award annual Scholarships to deserving Shafter High students and support school organizations.
